Sonya Dufner, FASID is a Principal and Director of Workplace Strategy in the New York office of Gensler. She draws from a dual background in interior design and planning to create fully integrated workplace environments for corporate and institutional clients. As Director of Workplace Strategy, she works with national and global clients to rethink processes and standards, bringing research and benchmarking to the challenge of improving productivity, promoting collaboration and attracting the best talent. Significant projects include work with Goldman Sachs, Thomson Reuters, Bank of America, Fidelity Investments, MetLife and L’Oréal USA. Sonya was also instrumental in transforming the United Nations Headquarters from a workplace based on hierarchy to one defined by functionality and flexibility. Her involvement comprised phasing, restacking and strategic programming for 3.5 million square feet of headquarters space. Sonya dedicates time to “Real World Design Week,” a program designed to encourage relationships between students and industry role models that will help develop future leaders of the design profession. Sonya holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in interior design from Michigan State University. She is a fellow of the American Society of Interior Designers and was on the national board for ASID. Recently she was honored as one of the foremost movers and shakers in the growing public interest design field by . Currently she participates on the advisory board of Design Ignites Change, is an active member of the Association of Real Estate Women and CoreNet Global. She is NCIDQ certified and a LEED® accredited professional. Sonya’s award-winning work has been featured in Contract Design, Interior Design and Architectural Record among other leading publications.
